“Can He Not Be Persuaded to Come Back?” Jonathan Trott on Virat Kohli’s Reaction to India’s Win

Jonathan Trott sparked a light-hearted conversation around Virat Kohli's possible return to Test cricket after India’s victory at Edgbaston. Kohli, who retired from Test cricket earlier this year, shared his excitement after India’s historic 336-run win and Trott cheekily suggested the former captain might be tempted to make a return.

Kohli was among the first to react on social media after India’s win. He took to X to post, "Great victory for India at Edgbaston. Fearless and kept pushing England to the wall. Brilliantly led by Shubhman with the bat and in the field and impactful performances from everyone. Special mention to Siraj and Akash for the way they bowled on this pitch."

A day before, Virat Kohli had praised India’s new Test captain Shubman Gill, who scored 269 and 161 runs in the Edgbaston Test, on Instagram. He shared a picture of Gill in his story with the caption, "Well played, star boy. Rewriting history. Onwards and upwards from here. You deserve all of this."

Jonathan Trott Jokes About Virat Kohli’s Test Comeback After India’s Edgbaston Win

Reacting to Kohli’s posts, Trott joked that the former might be missing the dressing room more than he expected. He said it would not be surprising if Kohli was tempted to return since he lives in London.

"Coming back to Virat Kohli's tweet, no wonder he misses that dressing room feeling. I sometimes wonder how quickly that feeling comes back after you give up the game. Doesn’t he live in St. John’s Wood or nearby? Can he not be persuaded to come back?" Trott said as quoted on the Sony Sports Network.

When it was pointed out that Gill’s heroics have cemented the No. 4 slot, Trott added,

"I’m sure he would have liked No. 5 or 3."

With the Bangladesh tour now officially called off, Kohli’s return to international cricket will come later in the year. India are scheduled to travel to Australia in October-November for three ODIs and five T20Is.

Kohli is expected to be part of that ODI series, which will be his first appearance in India colours since his Test retirement.
